Putting aside for a moment the fact that Jesus was God. The fact remains that his teachings where revolutionary in the sense that his teachings created a paradigm shift in the whole lives of those who became believers
I think that in comparison to other doctrins/philosophers Jesus' revolutionary contribution to mankind was compassion for the misfits and the outcasts. ie.the poor, women, children, leppers, tax-collectors, etc.
He is different because he proposes that through him and his love we are forgiven for all of our sins and short comings. The gift of salvation is free, by the belief in his deity and compassionate love for us. Because of his love for us he gave up everything (heaven, his father, his omni presence, his life, his dignity, and all his glory)so that one day we can be able to be reunited with him. It is as if humandkind is a lost lover to whom He is traveling the universe in search of and will not be content until all who love him are back at home in his arms. It is the ultimate love story. No other has sacrificed so much for people who care so little.
To me when you compare Jesus to other teachers from history what stands out the most is that even though with this other teachers there might have been love and much wisdom, Jesus was the only one that died for me and rose from the grave. Thus He is the only one that can give me the hope that others can not.
